He and his family moved to Beverly Hills, California when he was four, where he attended Vista Grammar School and Beverly Hills High School. He then attended Santa Monica City College in Los Angeles, where he began his acting career. He first appeared in several beach movies with Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon. He studied at the prestigious Actors Studio and the Herbert Berghof Studio while appearing in several off-Broadway plays. After a stint as a semi-regular with Sally Field on the television series, "Gidget," Nader decided to move to New York to pursue his craft. Michael began his soap opera career in 1976 in the role of Kevin Thompson on "As the World Turns", and was on that show for three years. When Nader returned to Los Angeles , he quickly landed the part of Alexi Theodopolous on the series, "Bare Essence". Nader is well-known for his role of Farnsworth "Dex" Dexter on the ABC series, "[[:category:Dynasty|Dynasty]]", which he portrayed from November, 1983, to May, 1989. In 1990, he produced and co-starred in "A Prayer For My Daughter", which won that year's Los Angeles DramaLogue Award for Best Ensemble Production. When Michael Nader joined "All My Children" in September 1991, he created the role of Dimitri Marick, the handsome and dashing Hungarian Count. His magnetic performances have garnered him many loyal fans, who have eagerly watched Dimitri in stories of romance, drama and mystery. In 1992, Michael was on Soap Opera Digest's list of TV's Sexiest Men. In 1993, he (along with John Callahan) received the Soap Opera Digest Award for Best Brothers. In 1997, Michael was nominated by Soap Opera Update as Best Actor. In 1998, he was nominated by Soap Opera Digest as Outstanding Villain. And in 2000, Soap Opera Digest gave Michael the Best Male Return Award. He was fired from the series when he was arrested for drug possession. Speculation abounded that the actor, who completed rehab, had HIV, which he vehemently denied. Nader's prime-time work includes starring roles in numerous made-for-television movies, including "Lady Mobster", which co-starred his "All My Children" castmate Susan Lucci. The film aired on ABC in the 1988-89 season. He also appeared in the miniseries, "The Great Escape" and "Lucky", and guest starred in the two-hour premiere of "The Flash". He resides in New York City. In early 2001 he was arrested and charged with possession of an illegal substance. He was sentenced to rehab, which he completed. He has been clean and sober for fifteen years now. Nader is a very active member of A.A. and has helped many young people through the rigors of giving up a terrible addiction.
